The archaeological study performed at Curtișoara, in the place known as “Lunca Iezurenilor“, highlighted the existence of historical remains dating from three distinct periods of human habitation. The oldest can be attributed to the beginning of the Bronze Age and consists of several pits holding domestic waste and ceramic fragments from pottery used in food preparation and serving. The presence of burnt adobe pieces indicates the existence of incinerated constructions, probably situated beyond the studied area.
The second stage dates to the beginning of the First Iron Age. To this historical period are attributed at least 14 storage pits or domestic waste fills. As in the previous case, our discoveries consist especially in pottery and a bronze sickle. The reduced size of the latter and the lack of traces seem to indicate a votive role instead of an accidental loss, in spite of the apparent ‘domestic’ aspect of the associated inventory.
The last stage belongs to a scattered Middle Age village laying along the valley. It used to be a small agricultural rural community developing in the area after the great Tartar invasion. The Curtișoara settlement is one of the few known in the area of the “Litua country”.
